Blanchisseuse got its name because the village women used the river for washing
their clothes; hence the translation from "washer-woman" to the French word
"Blanchisseuse". Today, the village with a population of about 3000 is divided
into Lower Village and Upper Village. The Arima Blanchisseuse Road being the dividing
line.
The Post Office, Fishing Cooperative, Police Station, Government Administrative
Offices, Health Centre and Roman Catholic Church are located in the Lower Village.
The School, Government Works Department, Wood and Leather Artisans, Community Centre
and Recreation Field are in the Upper Village.
Laguna Mar Resort is on the outskirts of Upper Village just before the 65.5 mile marker
on the Paria main Road.
